Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is commonly found in plant sources. ALA are 18 carbon chain fatty acids. Body also converts some of the ALA to EPA & DHA. Body can convert only 20%ALA to EPA and only up to 9% of ALA is converted to DHA.

Eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) & Docosahexanoic acid (DHA) are a more functional form of Omega 3 and are prominently found in marine sources like mackerel, herring, tuna, salmon etc.

EPA is important for producing eicosanoids that help to control inflammation in the body & also beneficial for mood disorder.
